高考即将来临！这些英语小知识必须掌握

因为“高考”也表示“大学的准入标准考试”。所以，也可以用“College Entrence Exam”和“National college entrence exam”来表达。

说到“考试”，我们首先想到的是“take an exam”，但英文中还有一个很常见但又意想不到的词——sit。这个词语原意为“坐”，但它也可以表示“to do an exam”，即“sit an exam”，也可以加一个介词for，即“sit for an exam”。

例句：

Enduring scorching summer heat, over 50,000 high school seniors in Shanghai are sitting the national college entrance exam, known as the gaokao.

上海超过5万名高中生忍着高温酷暑，参加全国高考。

不过，“sit an exam”这种用法常见于英式英语中，美式英语中更常说“take an exam”。

例句：

Pupils are required to sit nine subjects at GCSE.

学生们要参加9门普通中等教育证书考试。
